Seed types:

(Remember – these designations do not refer to how easy the seeds are to grow or how easy it is to save seeds from the plants, but how easy it is to be reasonably sure that the seeds you’ve harvested will grow the same type of plant you grew before.)

Examples of “Easy” Seeds:

These plants do not cross-pollinate with other plants in your garden, so the seeds you harvest will grow plants like the ones you grew before.

  • Peas
  • Beans
  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Arugula
  • Dill

Examples of “Advanced” Seeds:

These seeds require large spaces or hand-pollination in order to guarantee that the plants grown from the next generation of seeds will be the same as the ones you planted.

  • Beets and chard
  • Parsley
  • Parsnips
  • Carrots
  • Peppers
  • Cauliflower
  • Cabbage
  • Corn
  • Pumpkins
  • Squash
  • Cucumbers
